Family Trip to Mehandipur Balaji Temple in Rajasthan

Hi, are you a believer of religion and rituals? Well, friends this blog is special to me. I visited a popular religious spot in Rajasthan which was my parents’ choice – Mehandipur Balaji Temple. Trust me, for a person like me this was a totally different experience as this was a temple that captivated me.

Balaji is a name of a local deity which is identified with Hanuman, the monkey god who was an ardent follower of the god Rama in the Ramayana epic.

My parents and I reached in time to witness the evening arti the ritual of god’s adoration. The ritual took place in the main temple and was mostly similar to other such rituals. My mother bought some flowers and sweets to offer in the temple.

As we stepped inside the temple it was a devotional zone. A lot of mystery reflects in temple’s architecture. Broadly divided into four sections or chambers, the first two chambers have idols of Lord Hanuman and Lord Bhairon, where people were asked to throw the black-coloured balls into the ceremonial fire. The legend here says that by doing so, you keep all evil forces at bay. Since the temple is dedicated to the most powerful of Hindu deities- Lord Hanuman, it is believed that his power can actually ward off any black magic force on Earth.

One word that caught my attention in the melodically repeated phrase was “Balaji,” most possibly a call to the deity for assistance. In local tradition, Balaji is believed to have a special power of exorcising ghosts from humans. This is why people believed to be possessed are brought to the temple. What was noticeable different however, were the attendees, some of whom appeared to be disabled and I assumed were believed to be “possessed.” The sinister beings that can possess people are called bhuts or prets in Hindi. Balaji is considered to offer the power to chase away the evil powers.

My parents and the other people in the temple were behaving very normally because they have visited the temple before also. But for me it was a really different experience.
We didn’t actually stay at any hotel because we were there for just one day and in the night we were traveling to Jaipur.

Some superstitions that are followed
Make sure you do not consume any food in the village from the moment you come into this village. Ensure that you don’t talk to any person or even touch any person once you are inside the temple. When you are going home after visiting the temple, make sure that you don’t carry any food item or Prasad. Ensure that all your food packets and water bottles are emptied before you leave this place.

History behind the Temple
This temple is believed to have a mythological connection which is very much eminent for the Hindu followers. It is said that many years ago, the image of Lord Hanuman and Pret Raja who is the king of evil spirits appeared from the Aravalli Hills. After this incident the people who are suffering from black magic or spell visit this place and make an appeal to Sri Bhairav Ji who relief them from these spirits. It is also said that this temple in Rajasthan is a powerful place because the deity is believed to have divine powers within himself.
